On this episode of the ShopNotes Podcast, Phil and the guys give an update on some of the recent projects they have been working on.
Phil has been getting more time in his workshop this past week and it's paid off. While working on a pair of cutting boards, he was reminded of his affection for a drill press-powered edge sander. It easily smoothes edges, refines shapes, and can be used to dial in the fit of parts.
Several of Woodsmith and Popular Woodworking staff are making Christmas ornaments. Phil shared a couple of his. They are inspired by the illustrations of Charley Harper.
Pine offers an ideal education in resawing by hand. And Phil's sharpening job on the rip saw worked out well. Practice builds consistency, but the technique itself is easy to pick up.
John has several projects that he's started ... and then stalled out. Time to focus and get them knocked out.
Logan reported back on his silica dessicant experipents with drying turned bowl blanks. Finding no. 1? It doesn't work if you've sealed the bowl with Titebond II. Another result: you need a lot of dessicant.
... and of course he's been milling. This hard maple isn't very common here in Iowa. Amazing color, though.
